Position Purpose

The Grant Writer will identify funding sources and opportunities to support research. The primary responsibility of this position is to assist faculty on writing/editing of high-quality medical and scientific grant proposals for submission to a variety of funding agencies, including the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Department of Defense and other federal, state and private foundations. The Grant Writer is responsible for ensuring high-quality proposals as well as collaborating with all levels of faculty, researchers, and administrators to develop, edit, and complete grants, manuscripts, protocols, reports, regulatory applications, abstracts, poster presentations, and other presentations. The Grant Writer is also responsible for preparing moderately complex clinical study documents and sections of regulatory submissions. The Grant Writer is responsible for the submission of grant proposals on behalf of both Arrowhead Regional Medical Center and California University of Science and Medicine.

Essential Function
  • Discuss new grant ideas/specific aims with Principal Investigator(s) and accordingly (when applicable) write, for specific types of grants, drafts (e.g., specific aims page, research plan significance, innovation, reference section) and other sections as needed for grant applications or proposals.
  • Assist with the response to reviewers’ critiques.
  • Facilitates writing, editing, and preparation of high quality written scientific documents such as grant applications, publications, scientific manuscripts, administrative reports. This includes writing, editing, proofreading, and formatting documents.
  • Provides full life cycle support for grant submissions, including managing timelines and project milestones, collecting figures, illustrations, and information from various sources and coordinating with multiple stakeholders involved in the submission.
  • Identifying grant opportunities, maintains up-to-date grants calendar and tracks deadlines for reports, letters of intent, and grant submissions.
  • Prepares progress reports and updates for federal, state, non-profit, and/or private funding agencies and organizations.
  • Follows established County of San Bernardino and department policies, rules and regulations and ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local agencies.

Minimum Requirements

  • PhD, MD, PharmD, or other equivalent degree in life sciences or related fields.
  • Certificate or Substantial Coursework in English or Writing.
  • Seven to ten (7-10) years minimum experience in extensive scientific/medical writing experience, including research proposal development and scientific manuscript.
  • Seven (7) years of experience in solid scientific/research background.
  • Five (5) years of experience working in an academic and/or medical center.
  • Five (5) years of experience working on biomedical science grant applications and formats.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Grant writing
  • Three (3) years of demonstrated experience in writing protocols for clinical trials
