Position Purpose

Oversee the accounting functions of the University

  • Plan, direct, and oversee accounting operations of the University
  • Oversee banking and cash management including preparation of reports
  • Establishes University financial policies and transactional standards, ensuring consistency with the University's mission and strategic plans and compliance with State and Federal fiscal management laws and regulations, and generally accepted accounting standards
  • Ensures that effective controls are developed and maintained to ensure the integrity of the organization
  • Oversees major system development projects that impact financial reporting
  • Oversees external audits and preparation of audit reports
  • Develop and implement financial reporting solutions to meet the needs of the university community, enabling effective decision making
  • Implement procedures required to comply with new accounting and reporting standards
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications/Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5 years accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of University Accounting
  • Knowledge of financial, accounting and reporting systems, processes and controls
  • High degree of understanding accounting processes
  • High degree of attention to details especially working with numbers and dollars
  • Research, analytical, problem solving and conceptual thinking skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proactive with ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under tight deadlines with changing priorities.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Medical School experience
  • Master’s Degree and /or CPA license
  • Knowledge of fund accounting
  • Budgeting experience (strongly preferred)
