One of California’s Newest Medical Schools will celebrate MD candidate’s entrance into the medical profession
Colton, CA – July 19, 2022 - On July 23, 2022, California University of Science and Medicine (CUSM) will be providing 130 medical students their first white coat in a ceremony signifying an MD candidate’s transition into the medical profession and the beginning their journey to becoming a doctor. The White Coat Ceremony for the Class of 2026 will take place at Riverside Municipal Auditorium in the presence of families, guests, faculty members and university leaders. Dr. Paul Lyons, CUSM’s Dean, Dr. Prem Reddy, CUSM’s Chair of the Board and Founder, will present candidates with white coats.
CUSM was established in 2015, admitted its first medical class in 2018, and officially has four medical doctor program classes enrolled with 488 students. The universities’ goal is to address the critical shortage of physicians, improve health disparities and enhance population health for the needs of underserved areas in the Inland Empire.

This event allows students the opportunity to celebrate with family and friends the achievement of receiving their first white coat as a medical student.California is experiencing a significant physician shortage and CUSM is training more physicians, including a large number of local MD candidates who will be more likely to stay in Southern California after residency.
Interview & Photo Opportunities:
- Dr. Paul Lyons will explain the significance of the ceremony to the audience
- White coats will be presented to each candidate in groups of 3 on stage
- Students will recite the Hippocratic Oath as a group
- Dr. Lyons will be available for interviews
- Professors and students will be available for interviews
Stats:
- 98% of students admitted are California residents
- 36% of students are from low socio-economic status
- Students are highly qualified having scored in the top 10 – 25% on the MCATs
